From Amed to Montreal
Mazlum Akdeniz was born in Amed and moved to Canada with his family in 2004. He started fighting in Montreal at sixteen and turned professional at twenty, on 28 September 2017, with a four round decision over Ricardo Burgos (BoxRec, 2026; Kurdistan24, 2026).
He fights southpaw and stands 170 centimetres, small for the division and dependent on angles rather than reach. In 2015 he won the Ringside Championships as an amateur.
What Mazlum Akdeniz’s record shows
Our own count on the official record: twenty four fights, twenty four wins, no losses and no draws. That places him second only to Agit Kabayel among unbeaten Kurdish professionals, and it has been built over nine years rather than in a rush (BoxRec, 2026).
One win stands out beyond the numbers. When he beat Jorge Moiran Vinent he became the first Quebec based boxer to defeat a Cuban since Jean Pascal in 2005, and Cuban amateurs are the deepest talent pool in the sport (World Boxing News, 2026).
Why he matters
Kurdish combat sports are usually told as a European story: Germany, the Nordic countries, the United Kingdom. Akdeniz is the North American chapter, and he carries the name of the city he was born in every time a Canadian broadcast introduces him.
